Black Sea Natural Lye and Pomorie Liman Mud – Application
Black Sea lye (also known as “Pomorie lye”, “mother lye”, “natural lye” or “medicinal lye”) is a natural product obtained during salt production in the Burgas and Pomorie salt lakes, with a many times higher concentration of all the beneficial elements found in sea and lake water. And please do not buy lye and mud from dubious “traders” on the beach in “non-standard” packaging (usually 5 and 10 litre mineral water containers), as this can be dangerous to your health. Lye is applied in a similar way. Spread the lye over your whole body and leave it on for 20 minutes to a few hours, until it dries and forms tiny crystals on your skin. Then, for an even stronger effect, cover yourself with the therapeutic mud as well and leave it on for another 20 minutes to a few hours. Once it has dried completely, take a swim in the sea.
These treatments should ideally continue for at least 10-15 days to be effective. If you are at the seaside for fewer days, you can take mud and lye home with you and carry on there. Of course, this is not as pleasant and exciting as doing it on the beach, but you will still enjoy their healing and preventive effect to the full.
Once they have undergone a process of stabilisation and filtration, the beneficial properties of lye and mud last for up to 3-4 years. After that, some of these properties diminish. They are best kept in a dark, cool and well-ventilated place. To store therapeutic mud correctly, it needs to be enriched (topped up) with lye each time you open the container it is kept in. Add a little lye so that the mud is completely covered by about 1-2 cm. Without stabilisation and filtration, therapeutic mud and lye last a month at most, and only if stored correctly.
