We’re often asked what the difference is between the lye massage gels and oils — plain, with arnica, with rosemary, with lavender and with juniper. Which one should you choose? Essentially the products are similar: the main ingredient is 95% Black Sea lye with all of its beneficial properties. The difference lies in the herb we add — each one has its own benefits.
Which herb for what
- Arnica — for muscle pain, bruises, sprains and strains.
- Lavender — for relaxation, better sleep and calm after a stressful day.
- Rosemary — for circulation, firmer skin and anti-cellulite care.
- Juniper — for fluid retention, fatigue and anti-cellulite care.
- Without herbs — the pure action of lye, for joints and muscles.
Arnica
Arnica has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties. It improves blood supply to the area and so helps faster recovery. It is used for muscle pain, bruises, strains, sprains and other consequences of overexertion or injury. In terms of pain relief, it is one of the most powerful natural remedies.
Caution
Do not apply products containing arnica to an open wound — they may cause painful irritation.
Lavender
Lavender relaxes and soothes — thanks to its valuable essential oils and its unmistakable aroma. It helps with insomnia, nervous tension, headaches and stress, and creates a calmer mood. It also has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties.
Rosemary
Rosemary is a powerful antioxidant. It improves circulation and keeps the skin firm and smooth. It has a toning, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving action, and is suitable for rheumatic pain. It also has an anti-cellulite effect and is ideal for oily skin.
Juniper
Juniper calms the nervous system — reducing anxiety, tension and mental fatigue. It normalises circulation and helps flush retained fluids and toxins from the body. It purifies the skin, strengthens its protective function and is an excellent ally in the fight against cellulite.
Gel or oil?
“The oils and gels are similar in composition. The gels simply have a higher viscosity, and the oils a lower one,” explains manager Grudimir Grudev. “Some therapists are used to working with a runnier consistency, others with a thicker one. It’s a matter of personal preference.” Choose a gel if you want the product to stay in place — for example under a compress, or an oil for a longer massage.
