LYE TREATMENTS
DISCOVER THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF LYE TREATMENTS YOU CAN APPLY AT HOME OR IN PROFESSIONAL REHABILITATION, SPA & WELLNESS CENTRES
LYE COMPRESSES
WARM OR COLD COMPRESSES ON PAINFUL AREAS
The lye is heated, always in a water bath, to a temperature of around 38-40 °C. A cotton cloth is soaked in the warmed lye, after which the problem joint is wrapped twice, or the compress is placed along the course of the affected nerve. The area is then covered with plastic film and, on top, with a towel or woollen cloth to retain the heat. It is left on for anything from 15 minutes to several hours. For a good effect, a course of 12 – 14 treatments is recommended.
Compresses with unheated lye (cold compress) may also be applied if the individual cannot tolerate a warm compress or suffers from varicose veins.
Place the sachet in a container of warm water (38-40 °C) for 3-5 minutes. Take out the warmed* cloth and place it along the course of the affected nerve or wrap it around the problem joint, cover it with plastic film (or cling film) and wrap with a towel or woollen cloth. In the case of varicose veins, apply a cold compress. Duration of the treatment – from 15 minutes to several hours.
*Heating in a microwave oven is not recommended.
LYE MASSAGE
GENTLE LOCAL OR FULL-BODY MASSAGE FOR DEEP PENETRATION OF THE LYE INTO THE SKIN
Using massage products with lye makes the effect of the massage even stronger:
- speeds up the metabolism;
- restores the balance of the nervous and muscular systems;
- relieves muscle pain;
- protects against cramp;
- nourishes and strengthens the hair, skin and nails.
Massage /or rubbing in with circular movements/ is the best way to use lye at home, as it requires no special equipment whatsoever. Rub the lye /gel or oil/ over the whole body or only on the areas affected by pain and stiffness and leave it on for 20 minutes to several hours, until the lye is absorbed and only the salt remains.
Do you work long hours at a computer?
These days, all-day computer use has given rise to "modern" complaints such as pain in the wrist, back and elbow. It is extremely useful and effective to apply lye gel to your whole arm up to the elbow while working at the computer /the arm you use for the mouse/. This way the arm recovers while you are using it and it doesn't hurt. Neat, isn't it?
Do you play sport?
Did you know that in more and more professional sports clubs medical staff use lye products in players' recovery treatments? It has been scientifically proven that the best way for magnesium to enter the body is transdermally /through the skin/, since the body takes up only as much as it needs, without placing any extra strain on the liver and kidneys. Oral intake not only burdens these organs, but they also break the magnesium down, and much of it never reaches the cells at all. This is why lye products are the best aid to your recovery.
LYE BATHS
LOCAL FOOT BATHS OR FULL-BODY BATHS ARE AN EXCEPTIONALLY PLEASANT WAY TO FEEL THE RELIEF BROUGHT BY THE HEALING PROPERTIES OF LYE
Lye baths: 500 – 2000 ml of stabilised Black Sea lye is poured into a bath holding around 60-70 l. The water in the bath must not be warmer than about 38 °C. Stay in the bath for 15-20 minutes. The bath relaxes the muscles, remineralises and relaxes the whole body. It relieves fatigue and tension in the body and improves tone. After the bath, rinse the skin thoroughly with water. People with hypertension should use it under medical supervision.
Local baths: warm or cold. 50-100 ml of lye is dissolved in 5 – 10 litres of water at a temperature of around 38 °C. Warm local foot baths are used for colds. For swollen legs or varicose veins, cold local foot baths are used. The duration is around 10-15 minutes.
Adding various oils and extracts to lye baths is extremely pleasant and beneficial – for example juniper extract, lavender oil or other essential oils to personal preference.
FRICTIONS
RUBBING LYE INTO THE SKIN WITH A SPONGE
Lye is used to rub down the body with a sponge or a cloth soaked in lye, always on clean skin (after a shower), so that the pores are open and the valuable minerals and trace elements can penetrate through them. The concentration depends on the sensitivity of the skin. ANCHIALO shower gel, with a
lye content of 10%, has been created specially for rub-downs. Besides this, you could also use massage gel or oil with lye, the body solution (Stabilised Black Sea lye) or our body applicator, which is a cotton cloth soaked in lye, ready to use.
The first treatments can be carried out with a more diluted lye solution (for example 1:10, the concentration found in ANCHIALO shower gel), increasing the concentration with each subsequent treatment up to 1:1. Leave on for 5 – 6 minutes, then rinse the body thoroughly with water.

2. Beneficial properties of Black Sea lye:
- normalises the function of saliva
- increases the resistance of tooth enamel
- normalises the acid-base balance in the oral cavity
- reduces gum swelling
3. Action of Black Sea lye:
- increases the resistance of the enamel, supports the process of strengthening it and thereby prevents the development of tooth decay
- neutralises the effect on the oxygen-alkaline balance of the oral cavity
- reduces swelling of the gum tissue
- research into the properties and possible uses of the salts of Pomorie Lake is ongoing
4. Medical and biological studies of Black Sea lye:
to ensure the normal condition of the microflora of the oral cavity
4.1. Preclinical experimental studies
- good local tolerance
- absence of allergenic and toxic properties
- absence of irritant effects
4.2. Clinical studies
- caries-preventive action: a 59% reduction in the likelihood of caries developing, along with lower rates of new caries appearing on the teeth
- plaque-cleansing action – 60%. A 31.5% reduction in the plaque index (measured by Green Vermillion)
- anti-inflammatory action: a rapid positive effect in cases of gingivitis, stopping the bleeding.
- 71% reduction in the manifestation of periodontal disease
4.3. Expert opinions
"Pharmacological studies of medicinal lye show that it has good biological tolerance, a stimulating effect on the enzyme activity of saliva and a protective effect on the tissue surface of the oral cavity, i.e. it activates the natural immune defence mechanisms in the oral cavity"

INHALATIONS
FOR INFLAMMATION OF THE UPPER RESPIRATORY TRACT
Inhalations with lye (a 2–5% solution with distilled water) are used for inflammation of the upper respiratory tract. The lye solution is inhaled using a special device /inhaler/ and thus enters the lungs directly. It helps with chronic bronchitis and various respiratory problems.
ULTRASOUND
ULTRASOUND THERAPY WITH LYE
It has a beneficial effect on problems of the peripheral system, the after-effects of damage to the CNS (central nervous system), injuries of the musculoskeletal system, problems with the gastrointestinal tract, chronic inflammatory processes in various organs and tissues, gynaecological problems and more.
With its help, lye penetrates deeper into the skin, so that its beneficial effect is significantly enhanced.
OTHER USES OF LYE
